Position Summary


North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce is seeking a creative and results-driven Marketing Manager to lead the Chamber’s marketing, communications, and public relations efforts. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, this individual will manage and execute marketing strategies for the Chamber and its affiliates: the Johnny Appleseed Trail Association (Visit North Central Massachusetts) and the North Central Massachusetts Development Corporation. The ideal candidate is an innovative storyteller with strong leadership skills who can elevate our brand, engage members, and promote the region as a premier destination for business and tourism.

The North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce is a dynamic, membership-based, volunteer-led organization dedicated to advancing the prosperity of North Central Massachusetts. With nearly 700 member businesses employing more than 25,000 people across 27 communities, the Chamber is recognized as one of the top chambers in the country. We are proud recipients of the prestigious National Chamber of the Year Award—the first chamber in Massachusetts and New England to earn this distinction—and achieved 5-Star Accreditation in 2023, a recognition shared by only 204 of the 7,022 chambers nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary
    • Champion the mission and values of the Chamber and its affiliates.
    • Lead the development, coordination, and implementation of all marketing and communications initiatives.
    • Manage and maintain websites, social media channels, email newsletters, and print publications.
    • Oversee public relations activities, including drafting press releases, coordinating media events, and organizing familiarization tours for journalists and influencers.
    • Build and manage relationships with external vendors (designers, printers, developers, writers, advertising partners).
    • Track, measure, and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns to ensure goals are achieved on time and within budget.
    • Provide excellent customer service to members, sponsors, and program participants.
  • Secondary
    • Develop and execute tourism marketing strategies in collaboration with local lodgings, restaurants, attractions, and event organizers to grow regional market share.
    • Research, write, and manage grant proposals supporting tourism and economic development initiatives.
    • Deliver presentations to civic, business, and government organizations on behalf of the Chamber and affiliates.
    • Collect and analyze data to produce the annual tourism situational analysis for the Visit North Central Massachusetts (VNCM) Board of Directors.
    • Manage and grow a database of travel consumers subscribed to the VNCM monthly newsletter.
    • Represent VNCM at trade shows, sales missions, and industry events to promote the region.
    • Coordinate cooperative advertising campaigns that highlight regional tourism partners.
    • Participate in joint planning efforts and serve on local committees that advance tourism and economic development.
    • Support other Chamber initiatives and programs as assigned by the President & CEO.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in marketing, communications, or a related role (private sector experience preferred).
  • Strong writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) required.
  • Familiarity with Final Cut Pro X or other video editing software a plus.
  • Ability to design and produce publications and digital content.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage projects, work collaboratively with colleagues, and engage volunteers.
  • Professional, energetic, and mature demeanor, with the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Minimal physical effort required; work is primarily performed in an office environment.
  • Must be able to speak, hear, and use hands to operate office equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and create documents using a computer.
  • Occasionally lift/carry items up to 10 lbs; rarely up to 30 lbs.
  • Occasional travel to local businesses and community sites under various conditions.
